Morphological Effect of Diabetes on the Fetus

Abstract
|
|
|
An autopsy case of stillbirth which was delivered from possible diabetic mother is presented. The stillborn infant weighed 6,050 gm, and measured 65.0cm in body len-gth. The main autopsy findings were macrosomia, particularly a large liver and both adrenal glands. The other organs were slightly enlarged.
Histologically the Langerhan´s islets were strikingly hyperplastic and numerous in number than the usual cases. Extramedullary erythropoiesis of an unusual degree was encountered in the liver and spleen.
